Thanks George for giving me credit for not being completely mechanically uninclined.
Tapered shaft was definately not spinning. I could turn the nut 20 turns either direction, very easily with an open ended wrench and the shaft wasn't turning.
The shaft is absolutely toasted. No threads left the bottom 1/2 inch. The pieces of the lock-nut actually still have threads. Vise grips, a drill, angle grinder with cutoff wheel, cold chisels, and a sledge hammer the nut is now in three pieces,,,,,,,,and i'm ready to start over.
Do you think i over torqued it? I had my torque wrench set at 65 ft/lbs and it never broke. I even called IPD and whomever i spoke to said they used the Haynes and 75 ft/lbs sounded good...although He didn't really sound confident in his answer or interested in helping me at all. I felt like he was brushing me off and could care less. Makes me sorry i just spent over $300 there last month.
Does Scan-Tech really live up to it's bad (internet) reputation?
