CO2 is a product of PERFECT combustion. It is non-toxic, and can best be described as an airborne fertilizer. It's role as a forcing agent in global temperatures is tenuous at best. When you look out your window, anything that is green, is green from photosynthesis, as a result of CO2.
Photochemical smog is created from nitrogen oxides. Those, and CO and HC emissions, kill many hundreds of people every day, around the world.
Somebody tell Al Gore.
