Also, the stiff accelerator pedal makes me think of the kick down cable on the auto trans, perhaps that's not adjusted properly. I'd just make sure that when the pedal is down all the way that the throttle is actually open all the way.

Also, check the exhaust manifold to see if there is a turbo attached. If not, that might be your problem! ;^)
