940 electric fans on 240

Does anyone have any thoughts & detail on adding an electric Fan to a 87 240 GL. My car came with a clutch fan only. Some 91 up had an electric fan also in front of the condenser. This extra fan worked when the compressor was on. I have heard of addapting a late 940 electric fan behind the radiator and deleting the clutch fan. In theory that look tobe the way to go since it should only work when its needed and should make it better on mileage. If anyone has done this conversion please let me know your thoughts and issues.
