i'm leaning toward a lighter color- white or silver, if possible, but thanks for the lead.
re. the dynamo- I have a delco alternator & swem bracket ready to drop into the car. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. I need to focus on more pressing issues (lean running carbs mainly) before I dwell on the still-functional charging system. but it's coming.
re. the York. This one's kind of funny. During the entire engine swap (started 2/07, finished 12/07) I never took the York compressor out of the engine bay or remove the condensor from the front of the car. I didn't want to let the R12 out of the closed system, so I moved the York around as I cleaned and painted different parts of the bay. I did it for two reasons- 1) I don't think you can get R12 in CA anymore, and 2) for the same reason it's no longer available, I wasn't keen on pro-actively releasing a bunch of CFC's into the atmosphere.
So as far as replacing the cruddy bolts on top, I'm afraid they actually hold the compressor together and that taking one off would release freon and kill the AC.
FWIW, my AC blows (or at least blew) really cold. I haven't gotten to try it with the new engine because I haven't sourced a 2-belt pulley to replace the CRACKED one that I pulled off of the B18. I also need to modify the idler pulley bracket to fit to the B20. The old bracket uses a pair of extra-long head bolts which seemed like a dumb idea. I'm going to modify it to clear the head bolts and pickup a couple of the injector mounting bolts instead (not the actual injector holes, but the threaded holes next to them). I think I was pretty gentle through the whole process and the system remained sealed. I expect the AC to be still working once I get those two hardware issues sorted.
