Hello,
If you are taking the block to have the cam bearings changed, also take the pistons and ask the machinist to measure the bores and the pistons for wear.
What determines whether you can hone and re-ring is whether the bores are still close enough to being round.
Believe it or not, but over time the bores become egg shaped(an exaggeration), but out of round enough from the thrust of the piston over to one side each time combustion take places. And if the bores are egg shaped, you can not get nice new round rings to seal properly.
If you are considering the B21 pistons, you have to use the later style connecting rods that use 24mm wrist pins.
BTW, new original Mahle pistons in at least 3 over bore sizes are still available.
If you have an early B20 that uses 22mm wrist pins, I usually have .030" overs in stock, but I still can get .015" and .040" as well.
