Bizarre crankcase pressure stuff 700 1987

Tim,

I didn't remove my intake (though I bought a $6.99 gasket if I had to), but I already had my throttle body and bellows off to clean them.

Throttle body's easy, except for those plastic ends for the throttle rod thingy. I broke the little clip on the top one, but it still works.

Take the flame trap off, and feel where the nipple of the oil trap is. Then hunch and bob until you can see the oil trap, and its two bolts to the block. I used a few extensions (total ~1.5 ft) and a 13mm socket with a u-joint right after the socket. A box wrench won't fit. The bolts are tight, and will give way with a CLUNK.

The toughest part about getting it out was the nipple in the bottom, going to the return hose. The pics in the FAQ don't tell you how long it is - but since you have a trap, you can compare. Be sure to use your finger to feel under the trap as you lift it out, making sure the return hose clip is still there.

Once it's up far enough, pull it toward the driver's side wheel well, and it should come out and get tangled in the vacuum hoses under the intake. The o-ring came out with mine - I didn't get a replacement, but coated the union with vaseline as a stopgap (I'm getting a new trap at the end of the month - need to get paid!).

I think the bolt holes in the block lead right into the oil pan. Don't drop crud in there.

Ari
