ICU 'Switching Function' failed 200 1984

"...using a test lead I jumpered the B and C terminals in the harness connector according to fig. 15 in the book and repeatedly installed them and removed them. I am not getting any spark."

Charles, I'm afraid my hasty read of that Bentley test sequence caused me to overlook the obvious:

If the ICU can't do its thing with a simulated (Hall Sensor) signal, there is no point in testing the HS itself. It's a 2-step process:

1) Hall Sensor signals ICU that it's Spark Time

2a) ICU removes ground from Coil 1
2b) Coil then generates spark voltage to distributor center wire
2c) ICU also pulses FI ECU, allowing fuel pumps etc.

The B-C jumper simulates Step 1, if step 2 then fails, the (disconnected) Hall sensor wasn't even present, so there's no reason (yet) to suspect it.

See the NOTE below step 6. It assumes the B-C simulation worked, and thus leaves you hanging if it didn't. For now I must do the same. In the meantime I suggest you start a new post/thread, beginning with a concise summary of what was learned from this one.

I'll be watching.
