Sorry, but I'm confused.
You say it is not engaged but the rpms show it is engaged?
Do you mean the light is just not on?

As for the fluid, I'm not sure what Volvo "cherry juice" is either.
Sure the newer OD used ATF, but the older M41 gearboxes used straight 30W as you stated. As for me, I'd go back to 30W or a synthetic like RedLine MTL. If the OD is not working with 30W, then it could be time for a rebuild. But I'm still not sure whether you are saying that it is or is not working!

Have you cleaned the filter?
