Causes of Coil Failure? 120-130

I've run two days with the replacement coil and running has been for the most part normal.

I am experiencing some hesitation/shudder/sputter when going from a stop to a start that feels very much like the failure that preceeded the old coil going critical.

So far this has only occurred in the afternoon when I am near home on a warm day and the engine is completely warm. However, I did experience a stall this morning but the car immediately restarted. I was running with a cold engine and no choke, so I'm thinking it was just that. Still... this problem crept up and became critical over the course of several weeks. I'm not sure if I am seeing a repeat of the problem..

Upon returning home, I quickly tested the replacement coil hot and found it still reads ~3 ohms. Seems okay, but I worry that there is something else wrong and that it may have killed my first coil.

I do not have another spare so if there is anything that could cause coil failure, I need to check it asap. What usually kills coils - aside from old-age? There's a guy selling expoy-filled coils that are supposed to be improved over the oil-filled types. Is there any truth to that?

Despite the replacement and significantly leaning the mixture, I do not think my mileage is improving. Still a few days to go before I can refill and check consumption...
