Yes, I would not hesitate. But Bruce has a good point. In your '93, the OD off light is referenced to battery, so you don't need a 3-way switch. My 84 would. So you can use a seat heater switch, or any other you have kicking around. But the OD-off light will be a bit dimmer than normal, getting its ground through the solenoid. In the unlikely event the lamp current is enough to keep the solenoid pulled in, then you'll probably have to punt - or go back to the relay, or three-way switch with one pole grounded.

I opened up a junkyard hazard switch. Its plenty tougher than any 16A fuse. Recall your '82 -- didn't it have an itty bitty slide switch to pull in the M46 OD? Even they are rated 15A DC. I'm not certain, but I believe the auto OD solenoid only draws an amp. The reason for the relay was not current handling, but alternate action and default OD-on behavior when powered up. So the only concern about current is if the wire you put in gets pinched along the line. If it does it will blow the fuse.
