First, is the headliner in good enough shape to be remounted by a shop? I've had that done on a 544 and they didn't charge much at all. They have the tools and knowledge.
Secondly, I bought a 740 GL as a beater. Runs nice. I replaced two speakers and the stereo sounds great.
Took it to a shop and had the cooling system and brake system flushed. Good thing to do for a used car purchase. They replaced the water pump that was leaking very slightly. OK, that's good, right? Idling rough, they replaced a something in the fuel injection system. Smooth. Man this thing needs shocks/struts. A set of KYB's and rubber stops later and it's really rides good. I replaced a cracked interior piece along the inside top, so I put a grab handle on the driver's side also. Neat-o. While at the pick and pull, I spotted and bought a nice set of mags, 15x6. Really good shape. Darn, these 185/70-15 tires just aren't gonna work with these mags. Need some 205's. Sunroof only popped up, never slid back more than an inch. I never cared, but... the shop will repair it for not more than $400. I've been reading, maybe I can do that myself. Car's looking nice, maybe I should get that oxidized clear-coat on the top and hood repainted..................
Wife asked "I thought this was a beater?" I responded "Well, it was...".
