Tachometer-Pegged 1800 1972

Hello,

It is possible that the alternator, while trying to recharge your battery, may have produced a voltage spike that could have killed the tach. That is one of the reasons you will see a "charge battery before restarting" stickers on some new and rebuilt alternators.

If you do decide to pull the tach to have it checked out a repair shop, you will need to plug the 2 tach wires with bullet connectors into each other to keep the car running. The tach signal runs through the tach and if you leave these wires unplugged, the car will not run.
