Yama,

Probably the easiest solution would be to conjure up a divide by 4 circuit and intercept the signals from the rear end before it reaches the speedo. If I recall correctly, you have an Automotive Electronics Engineering background, if my memory is in error, or correct, let me know off line and I'll be more than happy to help out if you are interested. This approach would have to be easier than yanking axles and changing tone rings that probably won't fit quite right.

The trick to the divider circuit will be the input signal conditioning.
