Alternator or regulator problem?? 140-160 1971

Derek;

Thanks certainly for the reference, and all the info in the article is correct, but it really applies specifically to the 122. The 140 power distribution system, specifically the fuseblock is wire differently and so is not really susceptible to the slight glowing AMP indicator due to a voltage drop across the main IGN power fuse. The fuseblock is also not quite as susceptible to corrosion as it is within pass compartment...the slight glowing AMP indicator is likely cause by something else...

Wayne; I would still suggest probing around the charge system and fuseblock with an accurate voltmeter...I suspect a poor connection somewhere (sorry, can't get more specific then that at this point) I'll have a look at the wiring diagram and see if I can make some more specific suggestions after you report result of voltage checks...please take comparison voltage readings at battery, alt output, FB input and IGN switch and AMP indicator and make note of any voltage differences more than a couple of tenths (use Vmeter set to sensitive range, and measure from Bat tosuggested points while engine is running), and report results...

A preventative cleaning, treatment with ACZP, and retightening of all grounds couldn't hurt...see: http://sw-em.com/anti_corrosive_paste.htm

Good Hunting
