Steering wheel removal/alignment 444-544

Hello All,

I recently rebuilt my front end, including the rusted-in 47 year-old King Pins (a nightmare; photos will be added soon) and dropped the car off at an alignment shop, specifically mentioning that the steering wheel was about an 1/8-turn off to the right.

When I picked up the car in the dark, yesterday night, the steering wheel was off by the same margin. Bummer!
Before I now spend another 1-1/2 hours driving the car to the alignment shop in the morning and picking it up at night again, I was wondering if you guys know if I can center the steering wheel directly.

As you may know, on some cars (i.e. early Porsche 911/912), the steering wheel fits only one way because of a horn button pin that has to stick through a certain hole in the steering wheel, thus all of the steering wheel alignment has to be done from the front end. Hence, any front wheel alignment starts with straightening the steering wheel, as it should always, anyway.

What's the situation on the Volvo PV544? If can align the steering wheel from the top, how do I remove the horn ring without breaking it?
Thank you for your advise.
