142 cams 140-160

I replaced the SU's with the DCOE 40's while the motor still had the stock 'F' head on it, on top of a 2.1L bottom end with a header and 2.25 exhaust. Even with a stock head and (IIRC) R grind cam, the DCOE's made a very large difference. mostly in upper RPM power, from 5000 rpm on up, the CDOE's just kept the motor well fed and working hard, where the SU's just sort of slowly faded. And even at lower RPM's, the throttle response from the Weber's is just razor sharp. The SU's always seemed to need a half moment or two to collect themselves before opening wide, the DCOE's just have a sort of instantaneous response when the pedal goes down. So much so that it can be a little touchy to drive slow - in low gear, with a light car, any slight bump on the pedal and the car lurches forward.

Paul - the ignition could be an issue on it. I'm using an old dual-point mech advance Mallory body with a Crane optical system. I've found that the overall range of advance isn't large enough, not even getting to the RPM at which it advances. Currently I can retard it some, and get better low PRM grunt, or advance it some and get more high RPM power, but the advance range isn't enoguh to get both. The advance mechanism is working well, free, lubed, etc. I need to take it apart again some time, I hear the total advance is adjustable somehow on them. I just haven't wrenched on the PV much for a long while, I've been tinkering with the turbo 245.
