As stated earlier, the line you've disconnected is in fact the supply line, not the return. There were two different styles of pressure regulators used in the 5 years of Volvo D-Jet production... one with two hose connections (like yours) and one with three (on later models). But one thing was constant... the line coming from the bottom of the regulator was the return line.

In any case, if the pump is working, you would get fuel from either line... supply or return... provided the regulator is not completely blocked, and I don't recall seeing one fail in that manner.
