Thanks for the advice, the fuse you mentioned is the blade style one under the hood on the drivers side right?

On mine, also a 71 but with the regulator atop the fuel rail, the fuse is one of the regular ceramic ones, and it lives under the hood on the driver's side on the inner fender ahead of a series of aluminum can-type relays, under a squarish bakelite cover with a screw knob in the middle.
