Whatever makes you think it's environmentally unfriendly? The energy to build it was expended years ago, so the only real environmental impact is what it spits out.

Even the standard carb setup isn't that awful. But if you want to get it right up to modern emission standards then that is easily achieved by running it on a butane/propane mix.

Electric cars are only environmentally friendly if you have a lots of renewable electricity. If the electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels it's completely pointless.
