This is why the heat didn't work 140-160 1971

I'd look over the core real well for any early signs of leakage. Several years ago I replaced the blower in my 72 144. I ignored the tiny bit of "greenish fuzz" that I saw around a couple of the solder joints on the core, only to have to go back in less that a year later to replace it when it started leaking.
