Replacing Compressor 200 1985

It sounds like the coil in the compressor clutch has shorted out. Fortunately, it can be replaced without opening the AC hoses. jnuttall had a post on this one a number of months ago, perhaps a search will find it.

Basically, you need to drop the compressor out the bottom of the engine bay to get enough space to swap the clutch.
