Thanks so much. That explains why it came apart. The washer probably busted off, then the clevis fell out of the L bracket. I had tried the c shaped retaining ring, but it came off after a week. I hadn't replaced the bushings yet (they were gone) so that was probably putting a lot of pressure on the connection.
When I was down there I took the opportunity to finally change the tranny mount. I discovered it had sheared in two pieces! With a new mount and new bushings I should get rid of all that slop.
