Sorry I was (am) pretty perplexed with the whole situation.
- I first tried a jumper remote switch to the battery, when my old neutral safety switch went out I was able to get it to crank that way.
- Then I put the jumper from the battery to the empty contact at the starter. (nearest to engine block)
- Then over to the smaller contact with the yellow/ black wire.
I received besides a spark or two, no engagement from the starter. It does seem a bit odd to me that the starter could just die out like that. I always thought starters to give a fair amount of warning when there going bad.
Thanks for the info regarding the crank position, AMM, and the fault code unit. I've read up on the crank position sensor, but it still remains a bit of a unknown to me. With electrical problems, it's seems easy to let guesswork run-a-muck...
I just ordered a Bosch starter today, so hopefully that will do the trick. Will update.
"Before you get side tracked by the other issues you must get the starter cranking."
Those are some good words to live by... Very helpful post.
Thanks,
- Oscar
