Reverse shift with M41 Transmission 1800

Is there a practical reason to restore the "lift" function or is it fine to just leave it as it is? (My 1800E does the same thing, you can just slide it into reverse as you would any other gear.) It doesn't seem to be a bad thing as far as I can tell..
