Doesn't this failure usually result in no start?
Yes. The stigma of the pink label is no-start, because of the failure to close the fuel pump relay. It is not intermittent, but a hard, permanent failure.
Of course, ECUs can fail in a myriad of other ways, but this was a design fault corrected by a re-designed circuit.
I run a car with a pink label -561, but carry a jumper clip lead in the glove box. I'm not saying that should be everyone's approach. It is a minimum. A later, white label ECU, would be the safest.
