REPLACE HEAD GASKET ON A 1993 940 WAGON

The garage charge of $8-900 includes having the head reworked and planed by the same machine shop i would have used. If I remove and replace the head myself, the machine shop would charge me $160 to remove and replace cam and valves, and $67 to resurface head. If I need a value or something, charges would be extra.
That is the $225 charge total. They would also drill out any broken exhaust studs, which I think will happen. They are rusted in, and PB plaster doesn't seem to want to loosen them. I will try a little heat also. My big question is, should I be able to remove the head and replace without too much difficulty? Any big problems setting up timing belt after this, etc? Thanks.
