Valves

If you have the head off and are taking the collets and keepers off the springs, I would suggest replacing the hushers, valve seals (they'll leak if you disturb them), collets, and lapping the valves. Be forewarned that improving the valve sealing might cause the rings to leak a little more, but cylinder / ring wear is not a big problem on Volvos.

If you keep all the valve parts in their proper order (#1 spring, valve, collets, collar, #2 spring, ..., etc.) you will not need to lap the valves. Lapping the valves is easy and cheap. You need a lapping stick and some lapping paste. If you use the water based paste, you can clean everything up with the hose.
