One of my cars has a Weber downdraft, one has SU's. I have had zero problems with either. That said I am switching the Weber for 2 renovated SUs. Why? Mainly because they look better and all the advice I have read here and elsewhere sends me off in that direction. The twin side draft Webers (DCOE?) are probably as good or better than the SUs, but you will pay dearly for the difference.
