If you're interested in a rubber tape with elasticity that can be stretched while wrapping and will shrink back slightly to form a tight joint, go to a marine supply store, e.g. West Marine, and buy rigging tape. Requires no heat. I've only ever seen it in white but it may come in other colors as well.
