Tachometer installation 122 120-130

Can't think of any reason to cut into the armored cable.
The neg. terminal on the coil should do it - although I don't know what kind of tach you are using.
Did you ground the tach when you tested it? Is it a metal base or housing?
That is likely how you are supposed to ground the unit.
