Try jumpering the Radio Suppression Relay (rsr). On your car it is one of the two black case relays mounted on the passenger's strut tower near the coolant reservoir.
Take a piece of two inch long insulated wire and strip the ends. Shape into a "U". Remove one of the relays and insert the jumper wire between the two heaviest wires in the relay socket.
If the auxilary fan comes on simply replace the relay and repeat the process on the other relay. With the jumper in place try to start the car. If it starts every time with the jumper in place the relay is probably at fault. You can buy a new one or simply open it up and reflow the solder joints on the circuit board.
Another suspect would be the Crank Position Sensor (aka the rpm sensor). Located at the top of the bell housing. Check to see if the insulation is in good shape.
