Carbed B20E Timing 140-160

I basically agree. Set it for 34 BTDC at 3500 -- that's more important than where the idle timing ends up, although if it's nowhere near 10 BTDC, that does indicate a problem. And absolutely do not connect the vacuum retard.

I'd set the valves at .016". That will increase valve overlap a bit and make the engine less likely to ping. On cars where access to the crank pulley is difficult, simply put it in 4th gear and nudge the car forward to bump the engine over in small increments.
