You don't mention the method of measurement, take that into account. Cams are measured by micrometer when removed from the engine and compared to factory specs, there is no guess work. It's either good or bad. (along with visual inspection)
As long as there is proper lubrication, cams seldom fail, they wear slowly, along with the other parts. (early amc/rambler excluded)
You didn't speak of a problem you are solving, jumping in and looking for problems is asking for trouble. Heading to mechanicals is hardly the first place to head if something is wrong. There is a diagnostic chain of command, you head inside when you have eliminated all other systems.
