"So you installed the pump without the connector by soldering the wires? It worked?"

Yes. At that time (about 5 years ago) that was the standard method, with the pump having "eyelet" type terminals, as in the pic below. I believe I just soldered short leads to the new pump (on the bench). Then used crimp splices to connect them when the pump was fitted in place in the sender.

I don't think I used the black rubber (silencer") sleeve as it seemed too thick to fit the pump into it's sender location.
