Do I have to pull the transmission to replace the clutch fork? 700 1990

This is such a drag ...

A moth or so ago, I replaced the clutch slave cylinder because it pushed its way through the clutch fork arm. At the time I could not imagine why it would do so, so I just replaced the cylinder. But, it just failed again, and now I am wondering what the hell is wrong with this thing, and all I can think is that the hole in the end of that fork has worn out (WTF?) and that I need to replace the fork. ARGGG! I had the trans out just 2 years ago to do the clutch, but I had no idea the fork was a potential problem. ARGGH!

So, my question, is: does anyone feel sorry for me? No? Well then, can anyone tell me if there is any possible way to replace that fork without pulling the transmission? I fear there is not, and I am half-way prepared to do it, but oh man, I really don't want to. Having done it twice with Big Red, I was hoping never to have to do it again.

Do I have to pull the trans to replace the clutch fork?
