Need to make a correction to instructions 200 1984

Given that you are still going at this (good for you!), take a look at the pictures you were already sent and the picture of the switch from the link to FCP Groton:

When you enlarge the picture you can see the threaded portion on the metal body of the switch. After you taken off both knobs, the plastic vanity panel and the metal brace, you will see a nut that is about 3/4" threaded on to the switch. Loosen the nut and you can then push the switch back into the dash and pull it out under dash or you can remove the instrument panel and remove it through that area. I cannot remember if the switch can pass directly out of the open area where the cover plate was on the early style dash but that is probably another possibility.
