BMW TV Ad Makes a Fool out of 240s

Yeah, I'm being a little sensitive.

Welp, the creme color and the big single square 1986 and later 240s were not offered with the VW inline 5 (or 6) cylinder diesel engines. I know.

Yes, I also know performing the not too difficult to adjust diesel fuel distributors on those 240 diesels (and other diesels of that and era and over the road and utility vehicles) were usually neglected by owners. Yet I'd not ever seen a diesel 240 do that.

Welp, VW, I think, is not offering a diesel LEV-compliant model in North America in the last year or so with little fan fare. I think PBS' Motorweek featured it with mostly a positive review in the last two years, sometime.

It seems a really cheap shot. The modern BMW versus something from, I guess, supposedly 25 years ago. It is as if the BMW ad writers were having an off day and could not come up with an audience identification and persuasive argument to show that this offering is better than that.

When you can own a contemporary VW that directly compares to this BMW models for many 10k$ more, that makes for a more difficult argument.

A lazy ad campaign, perhaps.

Welp, Sure Happy It's Thursday!
