Torque Wrench Cautions

Bummer to hear. I had the same sort of experience with a torque wrench and a water pump bolt. The result? I never use a torque wrench on anything that goes into the head (though I might for the head-to-block bolts themselves), nor any bolts calling for under 30 ft-lbs of torque.

Generally, I have good results getting my pittsburg wrench to click with steady pressure, but I also remember being somewhat careful (read: slow) when torquing the water pump bolt. Luckily, I was able to remove the broken bolt easily with vice grips.

Off to read up on torque wrenches.
Cheers!

PS Glad you got the bolt out!
