I haven't had this problem. I got one for my 740 from Pelican Parts under their 240 parts section. It's made by Gates and is just like their picture shows. It's the best. It was my third attempt at getting one that wouldn't quit after two months. I wouldn't get any other brand, note the underside design. I suspect, but can't prove there are some caps that are stamped "Germany" at factories in Asia.
