Unlike Al's '60, on both my '62 and '65 544's, the parking lamps stayed on when the headlamps were on, so they may have changed the wiring scheme at some point, possibly when they rolled to the 12V system. I have a '65 wiring diagram that backs this up... it shows both parking and taillamp wires connected to post 58b of the lighting switch.
