Many thanks to Jack for asking the initial question on my behalf. I am now registered for BB, and now see how I'll be spending the Thanksgiving holiday: on BB learning more about my 1964 1800S, 1969 164, 1998 V90, 2003 S60, ...

Anyway, I think that I'm looking for two parts for my Stromberg-equipped 1969 164, that the local experts here in MA have mentioned: a hot start valve (a little white plastic element that bolts on the front) and an asbestos heat shield that would live between the engine and the Strombergs, thereby limiting the transfer of heat.

My symptom is that the car (30k original miles, I've owned it for 5 years) starts and runs fine, but once fully warmed up, it sometimes wants to stall. And after shutting off for a brief period, it certainly doesn't want to start. When attempting to do so, I floor the gas pedal and crank it until it starts. It sometimes does, but only with great effort - unless I wait for an hour until it cools down.

I've heard that this is a common problem with this model, hence the (reputed) existence of these two parts. Any re-steering of my thinking would be appreciated, as would any leads to finding these parts.
