Has anyone rebuilt an M46?

The clutch could be at fault for difficulty shifting into 1st. It engages at about 1/2 travel and feels fine, though. I would have to check my receipts, but I think it's been about 130,000 miles since I had the factory clutch replaced (around 200k and car now has 332k).

My real concern is the noise that the box makes in 3rd gear. It is a medium pitched "growling" noise that increases with road speed. The box is quiet in all other gear.
