Just thinking, could there be something else preventing rotation, like some one mentioned, the flywheel, torque convertor? It really does sound like a bearing seized. Maybe there was more damage than just a broken piston when the timing belt went. I don't think one would have to mess with the crank bearings or cap bolts to replace a piston. Removing the head and oil pan is all that is required. But when that piston was damaged maybe it dinged bearing which just took some time to show itself.

Sounds like another car is in your future, too bad it would be kind of cool to know what the damage really is. Maybe an oil drain might reveal some clue.
