Maybe a Stupid question..........

Yea, the wheel bearings cost a lot less for the 240's too.
On the 240's there are two sets of taper roller bearings....one inner and one outer, and either can be changed individually.
They are also open bearings, so they can be maintained.

The 940 front wheel bearing hub costs $100+ for a aftermarket quality, and if either of the (2) internal ball bearings goes bad, junk it because you can't rebuild it.
I'd be afaid to price a new bearing hub from a Volvo dealer.

Taper roller bearings are a much, much better alternative to ball bearings, so I can't understand why Volvo went to the hub type.
