Oil pump drive bolt failure

Ah, I remember many moons ago back when I was in mechanic school ( heck I'm shocked I can remember anything back that far,,, I cant hardly remember what I had for breakfast these days.... and I'm still eating it right now :-)

But I digress ... We had an instructor who was a great guy ( who was also a retired bigwig from the SAE ) and he would love to start out any new class, whenever someone said they didnt need a torque wrench ( which always came up ) hed bring in an engine on a stand and right in front of everyone measure out the heads and deck , then let the person loose on it. Then take it back apart and measure out the damage. the things would be bent up like lasagna .

I use a torque wrench on every stinking fastener on a vehicle except for body bolts and screws, and I have quite a collection of torque wrenches, remember even when a bolt doesnt have a listed torque in the manual, doesnt mean it doesnt have a torque spec, it simply means that it doesnt have a SPECIALTY torque spec that differs from the standard torque specs.
Whenever no spec is listed,, then a torque wrench is still to be used, just by the standard torque charts. All torques are for lubricared threads with roughly 30wt oil or locktite unless otherwise listed Using antiseize requires recalculation.

THose HF torque wrenches are actually shockingly accurate, but you have to treat them right

If you torque down a high torque bolt when teh spring temp isnt right, you can easily overtorque the thing to the point of damage.
