As it turns out my buddy's car is fuel injected which apparently was the 2 year model he was referring too. The car starts fine but once it warms up it loses power. They took it too a Volvo mechanic who for the moment was stumped, he then contacted another Volvo guy who was also stumped, then they called an old timer with a long history of Volvo's who suggested the computer might be failing.
