Yes, on my 1993 945 the code came up for my knock sensor, I drove it for quite a while like that and did notice spark knock at times.
I ended up putting a good used one in and it seemed to do the trick, no more spark knock and the mpg is noticeably better, not leap + bounds, but noticeable.
