clutch problem? 444-544

Hello Paul,
Thanks for the advice. My comments re your comments below, with ***:

If you can go from neutral to reverse with the car idling and no have any gear crunch then that mostly eliminates the clutch.
***Well that's very good news!
You say it goes into first when idling and cold, but when warm, no so good, is that right?
***Yes, exactly.
That indicates something like the synchronizer.
*** I have a buddy that comes over to help me, I'll ask him to look at the synchronizer.
Have you tried double declutching into first?
*** I had to look up, "double declutching". :) If I read it right it means going from neutral to 1st, right? That's exactly what i do at at every traffic light when the problem occurs, when the car is warmed up i.e. the car is put in neutral at the light & then shifted into 1st gear when the light changes. However, as the car gets hotter it gets harder & harder to go from neutral to 1st gear smoothly. The car will buck, I'll need to be careful to taper acceleration just right & the clutch seems to catch very high on the pedal.
I have no idea what's causing this problem.
Maybe it's all in my head.... :)
Thanks for your assistance, Paul.
Regards,
Jim
