The "thread" or screw-type water pump (akin to an auger) predates the Dutch by a bit. It's generally known as an Archimedes Screw and for trivia nerds like me there's an interesting history here:

Modern versions are used in applications like sewage treatment plants, as it will handle virtually anything that will "flow".
